my reference to lacquer goes back to my aunt elsie, who traveled through europe and indonesia during the 50's and 60's. always returning with unusual mementos of her experience, i now have a new respect in having discovered the true art form involved in creating these lacquer serving pieces. an ancient technique that takes 100 days to complete, each piece set with layers of foil, mother-of-pearl inlay or inlayed cracked eggshells and then finished with 15-20 coats of lacquer. each one-of-a-kind. cocktail tray, horse head, grass, elephant, double monkey. 13" x 16". by J.Fleet.
