now that the christmas ornaments have been put away and wreath ribbons changed for a winter display, we begin to take inventory on what to purge and how we can freshen-up our homes and ourselves...new year's resolution and all. this could be finally giving away that pile of clothing we will never fit into again or swapping out the bed linens or updating our tableware with a new piece. because, lets face it, we get tired of looking at the same old...all the time.

at TheBarn, we have found two excellent ways to satisfy this urge - belgium linen and field stone food slabs. the amazing quality of linen is that it will keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. we did the test and for a year utilized linen bedding ourselves to validate this claim. we found it to be both cool and toasty in the respective seasons and to endure the wash and dry cycle without the need to iron - bonus!

we like mixing plaid, stripe, and floral patterns.

this season, we added a field stone food slab to our table when entertaining friends for lunch or cocktails. whether we serve cheese or smoked meats, these slabs labeled from working farms in vermont, massachusetts, or new hampshire are the perfect complement to pewter and wood that we enjoy using.

it's interesting that each piece is individual onto itself and sometimes you get one marked with 'rings' of age - like that of a tree.

while visiting our site, you will discover several probabilities to ReFresh your own home. now, we are going to swap-out the natty flannels for cozy linens and plan our next gathering...
